In order to have a cathedral, you needed a bishop. If it did not have one there would be no cathedral. Cathedrals were used for Christians going to pray to God. They also could be used for kings, lords, or when bishops had something to discuss. Today, we still take communion just like they did in the Middle Ages. Cathedrals are similar to what we have today in are lives, except we have cathedrals. The only cathedrals we still have are the ones that are still standing from a long time ago.
They are similar to what we have today because in the Middle Ages, they had funerals, marriage ceremonies, or baptisms just like we do today! If the town was being attacked, people would stay in the cathedral to be safe. Also, if it was to cold, farmers markets would sell their goods in the cathedral. We still have cathedrals today. The builders of the cathedrals were the Medieval workers, who had all types of tools. In order to build a cathedral, you needed for example, a master quarryman and a stone cutter. A person who was working on the cathedral, also had there own workshop to take care of. For instance, if there was a stone cutter, they would have there own workshop cutting stone.
